Love Your Home: A Chair Story

Seeing beauty where others see a mess is a special talent.  Our Ugly Duckling chair story.

The Before

See Kathy Corbet's chair transformation. This is the before.

Most people would look at this piece of furniture and see trash. However, Seth Woods of Wood’s Refinishing recognized that this chair was a fine handmade piece of furniture in the Queen Anne style, the same architectural period of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra League Designer House.

Before and After

The Chair with all the old upholstery removed and the structure refinished.

Clearly he was correct!  After working his magic the beauty of the chair is obvious!

Vision for The Next Step

This chair by Restoration Hardware is the inspiration for the next step in my chair's life

This chair by Restoration Hardware is my inspiration photo for how I would like to see the other chair upholstered.  Keeping it a little raw and unfinished will allow the beauty of Seth’s restoration to show through.  And, of course, it will fit nicely with my room theme.

The Fabric

This Christian Lacroix Orchid Fabric will add an ethereal feel to the deconstructed chair.

This print was designed by a Parisian fashion designer, Christian Lacroix.  His background in historical costume and theater is evident in this very dramatic and edgy floral design.

Pavel Fabritski of Fashion Design in Richmond took over from here. His attention to detail on the finished and unfinished parts of this chair make it the perfect addition to my “Stairway to Heaven” foyer in the RSOL House.
