10 Jan On Trend: Performance Fabrics
We have been specifying contract fabrics for many years here at Kathy Corbet Interiors. It is refreshing to see it become a “Performance Fabric” trend! This means there are more choices than ever before for our clients.
Performance fabrics mean fabrics that are specially treated to hold up to the wear, tear, and spills of a busy life. They are perfect for homes with kids, homes with pets, or just homes of busy people who aren’t perfect. At Kathy Corbet, we are constantly finding fresh new performance fabrics and testing them to ensure they hold up to their word.
The chenille on this sofa was treated with Crypton. Crypton fabric has been my absolute favorite for many years. I even challenge my clients to spill test a sample at home! We squirted ketchup on this, let it sit for 15 minutes (because that is what our husbands and children do), then scrubbed it clean with dish soap and water.
The seat fabric on these barstools is another Crypton-treated product. The seat back is from Pollack Fabrics and is a poly/nylon blend treated with Alta. Now it’s even easier to use pretty patterns in the dining area.
Two young children, two dogs and two cats live here. These sofas are upholstered in a poly/polypropelene blend chenille fabric treated with Nanotex. It is soft, durable, stain resistant and can be scrubbed clean of any spills. Note that the carpet is polypropylene too.
Leather is the ultimate spill-proof fabric. The new vinyls that are now available do an impressive imitation. Look at these from Wolfe Gordon.
Not all Sunbrella is washable, but some is. We used this washable option to slipcover dining chairs for a young family.
Bleach-cleanable Sunbrella is the way to go when spills are involved. Here, we used it to cover the banquette cushions for a stylish yet cleanable kitchen look.
This beautiful, bright acrylic backed polyester fabric was the perfect choice for a busy house with a cat, a dog and two teenagers.
There are so many choices for performance fabrics today. Contact me to find the right look for your home.
