creating a comfy guest room
Holiday travel is over. On a scale of 1 to 10, how were the guest rooms you stayed in? Here are our tips for making a comfortable guest room.
Choose easy, Comfortable bedding
We like to give guest rooms bedding that is easy to make and this usually means a coverlet. Of course, washable is also key as your guests may use multiple pillows and sleep on the shams.
This partition doubles as storage—glasses, phones, anything small can be in plain sight and handy. The table in the back holds your luggage.
Good lighting
Bed side lamps plus an overhead light provide general and task lighting.
Privacy
We asked Chat GPT to list what makes a guest room comfortable and surprisingly privacy was on the list! The view may be great but give your guests the option for privacy with shutters, blinds or drapes.
Functional furniture
This guest room has a cozy window seat. This provides a place to sit and tie your shoes or little lounge to spread out and answer your email.
Thoughtful Accessories
Bedside accessories should be thoughtful and include tissues (note how we put these in a tulip vase!), a pad and pen and a carafe of water.
Homey Touches
A place to perch other than the bed is essential. This is a great place to show your guests that you thought of every detail by providing slippers, a robe and a local magazine!
Personal touch
Your guests are visiting you, so make sure to share some of your taste in the guest room. It makes it feel more personal and fun. Here we gave this coastal guest room a theme that ties to the local vibe.
