Trend-Spotting and why we do it

The Oxford Dictionary defines trend:  a general direction in which something is developing or changing.

The Kathy Corbet Interiors crew regrouping for refreshments and interior design trend talk after a long day at market.

At every market, we find ourselves reviewing and noting the trends we picked up on.  What trends do we look for and why?

For the most part our clients are not trendy, nor are our designs. But by being aware of the latest trends ,we can work a touch of something new into our timeless designs.  We are also able to tip the scales a bit for our trendier clients and their needs.

Here we slipped a few trendy decorative items into an awkward, slim dormer.

Trends reflect current tastes and preferences, often reflecting broader cultural shifts and societal changes. This helps us create meaningful spaces that resonate with the current cultural context.

Our design for this dark and cozy room was influenced by traditional wool plaids, something made popular by the hit tv series “Outlander.”

Staying informed requires continuous learning so we can adapt and innovate accordingly.  We are always on the lookout for new materials, technologies, and ideas. We incorporate these innovations into our work, pushing the boundaries of traditional design and offering fresh, creative solutions.

A few years ago it would not have been possible to add a fireplace on the 9th floor of this high rise.  The latest technology in electric fireplaces allowed us to do just that.

In order to stay on trend, we attend several markets, trade shows and conferences annually or semi-annually.  These also provide valuable networking opportunities, allowing us to connect with peers and suppliers.  Our strong vendor relationships are essential to what we do.

New ideas and designs in furniture can help us with challenging spaces or aid us in making room layouts more flexible for multiple uses. Here, by mixing up the seating at a game table, we made it more inviting.  This little leather tuffet was a game changer, so to speak!

Creative color, pattern and texture combinations can lead us to be more bold or more subtle depending on what the space needs. This jewel box of a powder room that was squeezed in under the steps explodes with textured grass cloth, burnished gold and the blue concrete sink basin.

Seeing and learning about new materials embolden us to think outside the mainstream choices when we design. We learned that we had the ability to customize the size and configuration of this glass mosaic so we could make it look like it was the window view in the shower!  We also went for new technology with shower controls, chromotherapy and steam features!

Our efforts help us stay relevant, meet client expectations and foster creativity. Can we help you design a home that matches your vision, while staying current? Contact us today.
