Designing for a pet-friendly lifestyle

A pet-friendly home doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style. You can achieve a harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality by making thoughtful choices in your decor and furnishings while keeping your pets' needs in mind.

Decorating a home with pets in mind requires a balance between creating a comfortable and functional space for your furry friends while maintaining the aesthetics and cleanliness of your living environment. We frequently help our clients achieve the style they dream of in a space that’s livable for them and their pets. These are some of our favorite choices and tips.

  1. Pet-friendly flooring

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is easy to clean and scratch resistant. And there are so many realistic wood imitations to choose from.

2.  pet-friendly area rugs

Area rugs made of polypropylene hold up well and are amazingly stain resistant.

3.  pet-friendly fabrics

Select furniture with pet-friendly fabrics that are resistant to stains and easy to clean, such as leather, microfiber, or outdoor-grade fabrics.

4.  Favorite Pet-Friendly Furniture Brands

Sunbrella, Outdura and other outdoor fabrics clean so well that they are a great option for upholstered furniture.  Use washable and pet-resistant throw pillows and blankets to protect your furniture.

5. Pet-Friendly Bedding

Washable bedding is available in many great looks.

6.  Micro-Suede Bedding

This custom bedding was made with a micro suede fabric. Micro suede is great when you have cats; they just are not interested in scratching it. We stitched the decorative detail on all sides to prevent claws from pulling it loose.

7.  Add a pet cleaning station

Our pets’ paws can bring the outside in. If you can add a pet cleaning station, that is ideal. If not, just add a handheld shower head to make cleaning easy.

8.  Pet-Centric Storage

Incorporate ample storage for pet supplies like food, toys, and grooming tools. This helps keep your home organized and clutter-free.  Use decorative baskets or bins to store pet items discreetly.

9. Give Pets Their Own Dedicated Space

Provide comfortable and designated pet beds or furniture for your pets to discourage them from lounging on your own furniture. We like to create a cozy nook in the main rooms by making pet beds to complement the decor.  I keep a large bin of washable fabrics in the studio just for this purpose.
