hushed home: traditional and modern sound deadening

In today’s homes, sound deadening has become more important than ever. Whether it’s creating the perfect environment for a home theater, a serene library, or a productive home office, the demand for effective noise-reducing solutions continues to grow.

From tried-and-true classics to innovative modern designs, here are some of our favorite soundproofing options—both timeless staples and fresh ideas we've discovered at design markets.

books galore

A wall or row of books is an attractive and traditional option

window treatments

Window treatments also work well.  More fabric=quieter room

Focus on the floors

Rugs and carpeting do a great job, too.  This home office has the traditional trio.

Felt Panels

Large spaces may call for more drastic measures!  Here we installed 1/2” felt panels on the upper wall.  We went decorative with it by using geometric shapes and vibrant colors. All of the felt panels we are showing here are made by MDC Interiors.

The more subtle design is this wavy felt blade install we did on the voided space between the first and second floor.

Those same felt panels can be printed to look like stone, tile or wood.

This hallway at The Hilton in Fort Lauderdale put the wood-look felt on the ceiling and sisal carpet on the walls.  It works!

WallTerra makes a wood slat wall with felt as the foundation for oak and walnut in a variety of finishes.

Sculpted wall coverings

Elitis has this sculpted/padded wall covering in dramatic colors.
