trend talk: layered rugs

We have noticed that many of our vendors are staging with a look we call “layered rugs.”  This style has many benefits and it has been our solution for a few challenging layouts.

Texture Mixes

We spied all of these looks in Classic Home’s High Point Showroom.

Above, two natural rugs are layered for a soft and organic look.  The plushness gives the room a warm feel.

Here, the primitive pattern layered onto a natural jute rug gives subtle patterning to the room.

This is a reverse of the above with the lighter rug as the foundation.

Traditional Solutions

This guest bedroom was long and narrow (and had a big ole beam in the way!).

We wanted a patterned rug in there to add a little color.  Our solution was to layer a smaller traditional rug on top of a “berber-like” wool rug.  That way all furniture was “anchored” by a rug.

This client wanted to use a small rug she had owned for years in a large room.  Once again, we went custom with the lower layer to anchor all furniture.

The colorful heirloom was added on top.  The plus with this was the sound “calming” the layers provided.

We love our animal rugs!

This picture was taken in the Jonathan Charles showroom.  We are still debating this combo.  There is something very “Ralph Lauren” about the mix , though.

We layered this cow skin rug on top of a berber-style rug to add a little whimsy to the room.

This final picture is from Classic Home.  The hairy fur rug may be a hazard, but it sure gives the space some personality!
