HIGH POINT TREND REPORT PART 2: BLACK-WHITE-NATURAL

Over the years we have seen black and white trends and matte black and gold trends. Now we are seeing matte black and white with natural colors and materials. Some showrooms called it “Primitive Modern.”

This is part two in a series: The High Point Market is the largest furniture trade show in the world, bringing more than 75,000 people to High Point, North Carolina, every six months. I always scout for fresh furniture for my clients and trends to inform my recommendations. For the next few weeks I’ll be sharing spring market trends with you in a series. View part 1 the naturals.

HIGH POINT TREND 2: BLACK-WHITE-NATURAL

This display explores it all—patterns, art, furniture and upholstery. Note how even without color, this look still showcases a lot of personality and style.

My favorite part of this is the shape of the lamps. It has a tribal feel, but is also very sophisticated.

This hallway at Currey captured this trend in a magnificent, maximalist way.

New fabric introductions feature black, white and natural, too.

What an interesting idea to highlight the natural paper side of the books instead of the binding at Noir – CFC. It not only adds color, but texture and pattern as a backdrop for a simple piece of furniture.

Using natural rope to hang these pendants really softens the look. The consistent pattern carried across different shapes and materials creates a cohesive yet fun mismatched look.

FINAL NOTE

This vignette does not have black.  We just wanted to highlight it because we are also seeing an emergence of matte white.

Richmond magazine also showcased a gothic take on the black-white-neutral trend.
